Exhibition images: Breathing colours 19-31 May 2015
It was fabulous afternoon and I was honored to have so many guests for afternoon tea. I was particularly thrilled to meet some fellow adult adopted persons for the first time.
The catalogue is online here and prints are also now available of my work here.

Peranakan ceramics
A selection of Peranakan and Chinese ceramics for forthcoming shows and projects. I am enamoured by the beautiful colours of Peranakan ware, made especially for the Straits Chinese communities of SE Asia.
I reference the patterns and shapes through books and google - seriously, if I had these at home I'd be worth a fortune!

New images for forthcoming shows
I didn't have a Christmas or NY break, instead I've been working on a lot of new projects and images for forthcoming shows. I have three booked in for 2015 so have to work while the mojo is hot.

Tigermom - work in progress
Soon after New Year, I took a trip to Hillandale Gardens & Nursery in Yetholme to spend the day with my chum Sarah, talk about the new seed varieties I need to paint for this year's crop and enjoy the countryside.
Of course I came back with armfuls of flowers: Hydrangeas and tigerlilies so I set to, and started working on this image: 'Tiger mom', a gentle parody/protest at that term for overtly pushy and ambitious Asian mothers. I have put the tiger lillies into some very colourful Peranakan pots - these beautiful porcelian pieces were used at weddings amongst the Straits Chinese community in Singapore and Malaysia and I've been a huge fan ever since I came across some in a museum in Penang around 1988.

Gabby Malpas for Armuseli, Spain
I am delighted to be collaborating with the team at Armuseli, Spain on their capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2015.
I spied first photos of a garment featuring my 'Hope' butterfly a week or so ago and below are links to various media pieces after the launch.
I particularly love the youtube video of the team and guests having high tea - that is exactly the sort of scenario I set up for my own gallery openings!

Gabby Malpas: new cushion covers arrived
These just landed this week. This is the final print run of cushions for the year and these, like everything else I produce, are limited edition.
Each cushion cover is 100% cotton, machine washable and numbered as a limited edition print. I'd recommend keeping them out of very direct sunlight and outdoors.
The pattern depictions shown here are the front and back of each cushion.
42 of the spanish poppy (dark purple), and hellebore cushion covers were made and 45 of the poppy and acid begonias cushion covers (with purple piping).
These are in my online store at www.gabbymalpas.com, and will be coming soon to Platform72 and Breathing Colours Gallery soon...

Photos from the show: Where are you from? at Platform72
It was a wonderful night and I was overwhelmed with the support of friends, family and complete strangers who came.
Adoption agencies took an interest and there were representatives from AdoptChange, the Benevolent Society and others. Helen McCabe, who is on the board of directors at AdoptChange opened the show and was so generous with her time.
Platform72 were just wonderful as always
