In my mothers' gardens and other stories: St Vincents Hospital, Darlinghurst, Sydney

A small selection of images in my new show at St Vincents Hospital: 'In my mothers' gardens and other stories'.  There is a catalogue here.

The show runs until sometime in January 2016.  The best bit is you can pretty much view it day or night, 7 days a week.

This year I've been experimenting with images that can be duplicated and set up as image panels specifically for fabric in mind

Here are some I made earlier...

I didn't have a Christmas or NY break, instead I've been working on a lot of new projects and images for forthcoming shows.  I have three booked in for 2015 so have to work while the mojo is hot.

Gabby Malpas at the Object Gallery with Art Pharmacy 9 July - 23 August

Dear Frooters

It's been a while since I posted.  A lot has been going on:  I went on my annual hols, I have been sorting out new product lines (cushions, melamine platters, teatowels and new cards/seed packets), for this year's Spring shows and gift season.  I've also working on competition entries and show ideas so while I don't have much to show so far... I'm sure it'll all come in a rush.

Here are two images I have in a Sydney show.  The garden image is 'Sarah's garden', and shows Monkshood, Japanese anemones and toadlily - all from Hillandale Gardens and nursery, Yetholme NSW.  The second image is a study of blue and white ceramics that have been used in my pattern repeat design: 'blue and white'.

The show details are: 'Atrium', at the Object Gallery, 417 Bourke St, Surry Hills Sydney - on now until 23 August.

wildflowers and meadow flowers

I am a big fan of meadows and wild flowers - yes, weeds.

Most of the weeds I like are tiny in comparison to the large extravagant blooms I normally paint.
These tiny sketches are taking forms and shapes remembered from studying these plants closely and with a bit of artistic licence...

Little pictures

Part of my artwork process means playing around with new ideas and images.

I'm starting on collections of images: food or messages that can be used on cards.  Here are some offerings:

New cards at Blue Island Press

I am delighted to be working with Blue Island Press on a series of fine art cards, notecards and calendars.  Toby and Montessa have an eye for layout and imagery that brought to life images of mine that made me look at them in a whole different light.

Yesterday, a set of samples arrived in the post.  The quality of the printing and paper, the delicacy of the colours and absolutely lovely story on the back of each card has taken my artwork to a whole new level.

Thank you so much Blue Island Press!

Have a look at their website here.

Have a lovely weekend Frooters!

Commission - work in progress pictures

Forgive the irregular posts.  For the last couple of weeks I have been working on my largest commission to date for clients in the UK.

This one was to incorporate English cottage/woodland flowers, pet cats, a pet parrot, a peacock, some blue and white ceramics, mauve rhododendrons and various other bits and pieces that have some meaning in the couple's lives.

Here is a picture diary of progress to date following a rough sketch for approval in June:
