New cards at Blue Island Press

I am delighted to be working with Blue Island Press on a series of fine art cards, notecards and calendars.  Toby and Montessa have an eye for layout and imagery that brought to life images of mine that made me look at them in a whole different light.

Yesterday, a set of samples arrived in the post.  The quality of the printing and paper, the delicacy of the colours and absolutely lovely story on the back of each card has taken my artwork to a whole new level.

Sew Make Create Opening

This is Melissa Tan and her husband on the Sew Make Create studio, store and workshop opening day, in Chippendale, Sydney at the beginning of August.

They are now running a series of creative workshops: crochet, sewing, card making and jewellery.  I am offering watercolour workshops for beginners.

Gabby Malpas at Andable

I'm pleased to share that Andable has now launched.

I first met Rupal Ismin when she came by my market stall at Kirribilli in 2011.  She and her team have put together an online marketplace that sells lovely products with a social conscience.

But aside from that, they have a really cool community and family vibe about them all which makes me so happy to be involved.

This year's offering of seasonal cards for all those Kiwis and Kiwi lovers out there.  Some of my favourite 'from home' expressions painted up in watercolour.

Gabby Malpas at the Sydney Art Show 14 - 16 October

Come and say hello if you are coming to the Sydney Art Show at Darling Harbour from Friday 14, until Sunday 16 October.  I'm on stand D17.

Early Christmas cards

It's that time in Sydney again.  In between the downpours (and when it rains here it is truly miserable), are patches of bright bright sunshine and heat.

This years theme for my Chrimbo cards is the sunny colours of a Sydney summer.  Each has a little gold star and the words: Joyeux Noël on them.  I love doing these little abstract paintings - I love the colours blending into eachother and each stroke taking up a big spot on the paper. 

Only two and a bit weeks until Art Sydney.  Can I get excited yet?

OK, it's only September and I'm already making Christmas cards... you're thinking I'm either a Christmas lover or super organised...

Neither.

However, I am applying for a couple of seasonal markets around Sydney to sell jewellery, scarves and such so made up some card samples - hopefully they will catch an organiser's eye.

Mango Frooty handmade cards

I've made so many of these lately. All to give away. They're a thoughtful little gift for a bereavement, as a 'thank you', for illness ... a little more personal than flowers.

But heck they are time consuming.....

I can't give up the day job. I need to pay bills and buy materials.

Christmas is creeping up and I've started making cards. Here are some non-seasonal ones and some Chrimbo ones...

I've used watercolour and collage. Painting the colour stripes on paper is always fun. I incorporate a little bit of wax resist with white crayon though the flower image was made using that liquid rubber blockout stuff.

these are made from a mix of japanese papers, Chinese joss paper and watercolour. I also bought this little stamp thingy which cuts out paper flowers - it's plum blossom.
